Session 2

What is the Future Role Of Hospitals In Canada?

Expand/collapse session description...

Hospitals will always have a large role to play in the health care system. But what that role will be is shifting. Patients have come to rely on hospitals as their most trusted source for help. From acute to chronic care, surgery to diagnostics, hospitals will continue to be there for us. But hospitals can’t do everything. And nor should they.

What vision do leaders have for hospital care in the near- and long-term future? Join in the discussion as we parse the role of hospitals in Canada, and what that could mean for funding as well.

Value-Based Care in Practice: Practical Considerations for the Future of Care in Canada

Expand/collapse session description...

Many of you have lived through at least a couple of healthcare reform packages. Maybe even more. But another you can expect will be value-based care.

Canada is the last of the OECD countries to fully adopt value-based care. However, we are seeing more provinces open to implementing it.

With spending rising, and more reforms inevitable, what should hospital and health authority leaders be doing to be ready to lead?

Key Session Takeaways Include:

  • What are the myths and facts surrounding value-based care
  • What are the practical implications CEOs need to be aware of
  • What are the benefits and challenges to patients, payers and providers
  • How will value-based care affect healthcare budgets, particularly for hospitals

Building Greater Organizational Preparedness for Cyber Incidents: How CEOs Can Prepare for the Future Threats

Expand/collapse session description...

As peak of the pandemic winds down, the threat from cyber attackers and ransomware continues to grow. Given the scope of threat, and the potential value to criminals, it really comes down to a question of when – not if – you will have to respond to a cyber attack.

Technology has improved healthcare enormously, but it comes with the real effect of hobbling your ability to deliver care when systems are offline from attack. Fortunately, there are some hospital experiences we can draw on to better prepare ourselves through the entire process.

The Hospital for Sick Children has recently come back from a devastating ransomware attack, and has some important insights into how, as CEO, you can prepare for the inevitable.

Key Session Takeaways Include:

  • What plans, strategies and tools does your team need to have in place to thwart and mitigate attacks
  • What do you, as CEO, need to be prepared for, including communication among support teams, patients, families, and the media
  • What lessons did SickKids take away from their incident, and what would they recommend others do before an attack takes place

Chief Technology Officer, The Hospital for Sick Children

Quality and Outcomes: Delivering On Patient Experience and Outcomes

Expand/collapse session description...

The goal of any health care provider and organization is to provide exemplary service with ideal outcomes. And while there have been vast improvements in patient experiences and outcomes, there remains room for improvement. The inclusion of patient partners and advances in home care have helped, but so too as technology and even the improved ambiance in hospitals.

Here we discuss the small and the large initiatives that have proven successful, and how to adopt them nation-wide.
