Health systems across Canada have faced unprecedented strain in recent years and just as regular operations resumed post-COVID, recurring large-scale forest fires in many parts of the country and the economic crisis caused by American tariffs indicate that Emergency Preparedness should be everyone’s business. Despite these devastating threats, many organizations remain unprepared for the next emergency(ies), as attention and funding is diverted to tackling the service backlog left over from the pandemic.

One critical strategy is to combine key lessons for Crisis Preparedness with enhancing organizational leadership capacity, resilience, adaptability, thus broadening its scope.

In this session, we will explore how healthcare leaders can achieve this double aim by rethinking adaptive leadership, workforce support, operational performance, and cross-sector collaboration. Drawing on global evidence, CIHR-funded research, and practical frameworks, this session will examine how the Resolution Stage can be leveraged to build more adaptive, prepared, and high-performing health systems.
